Dr. Ibrahim Bangura calls for intensified breast cancer action in Sierra Leone

Dr. Ibrahim Bangura, an All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer aspirant, has called for increased efforts to combat breast cancer in Sierra Leone. Speaking during the Well Woman Clinic’s annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk in Freetown on October 24, 2026, Bangura emphasized the necessity of heightened public awareness, regular screening, and early detection to save lives.

Bangura identified several systemic challenges facing cancer care in the country, including limited funding, inadequate healthcare infrastructure, and social or cultural beliefs that prevent individuals from seeking timely medical help. He characterized the fight against breast cancer as both a health and a humanitarian issue requiring collective responsibility and compassion.

The event also marked the 20th anniversary of the Well Woman Clinic. Bangura, who cited the personal loss of his mother to the disease, urged the public to stand in solidarity with survivors and those currently undergoing treatment.
