Dr. Ioanna Gaka promoted blood filtration at state-sponsored conference
Dr. Ioanna Gaka, a physician implicated in the Giorgos Mazonakis case, previously served as a speaker at the 1st International Health Travel Conference held on May 4-5, 2023. The event was organized by the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine and held under the auspices of the Greek Ministries of Health and Tourism, as well as the Attica Region.
During a session on wellness tourism, Gaka promoted her practice's use of blood filtration technology, which she described as a German-engineered detox method designed to cleanse the body of environmental toxins from food, air, and water. She claimed the process aims to restore physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
While Gaka presented herself as having completed postgraduate and doctoral studies in Greece and abroad, the Athens Medical Association has noted that she does not appear to hold a specialized medical certification. The controversy highlights her public promotion of alternative therapies at a high-profile event supported by government institutions.
