Dr. Jules Sedney Port begins expansion with new 140-metre quay

Construction has officially begun on a new 140-metre-long quay at the Dr. Jules Sedney Port in Paramaribo, Suriname. The project reached a physical milestone on September 9, 2026, with the driving of the first pile.

Managed by N. V. Havenbeheer Suriname, the expansion is designed to meet the increasing maritime and logistical demands of the country’s emerging offshore oil and gas sector. The new quay will feature a load-bearing capacity of 20 tonnes per square metre and is expected to be completed within 12 months.

Haukes Construction N. V. has been awarded the construction contract, with financing provided by Hakrinbank N. V. The project emphasizes local participation, utilizing Surinamese expertise and suppliers to support national economic development and strengthen the country’s position in regional trade.
