Dr. Kadri Hamzat Secures Lagos APC Governorship Ticket

Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Hamzat was declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Lagos State’s 2027 governorship election after a primary that the party described as peaceful and orderly. At the party’s secretariat in Acme, Ogba, Hamzat received 657,917 of the 657,974 accredited votes, with his only challenger recording a single vote. The result was ratified by retired General Jon Temlong, chairman of the APC National Governorship Election Committee, and endorsed by Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu and senior party officials.

Hamzat emphasized that the contest was a “competition of ideas” focused on development, infrastructure, and service delivery rather than political conflict. He praised party members for their disciplined participation across Lagos’s 45 wards and said the APC would unveil a manifesto aimed at advancing the state’s economic growth and social welfare. APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi and retiring General Temlong also highlighted the primaries as evidence of democratic maturity within the party.

The primary’s peaceful conduct was noted by observers and party officials, who urged supporters to maintain calm ahead of the broader 2027 election cycle.
