Dr. Mariyam Mariya appointed Ambassador-at-Large

Dr. Mariyam Mariya, the former Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, has been appointed as an Ambassador-at-Large at the Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The appointment follows her departure from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s cabinet during a major administrative restructuring in April.

Mariya was part of a group of ten ministers who resigned following the local council elections on April 4. Prior to her role in agriculture, she served as the Minister of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development. As an Ambassador-at-Large, she will handle specific international matters or diplomatic assignments, though it is not yet confirmed if she will be nominated to a specific country.

This appointment follows a pattern seen with other former ministers, such as Adam Shareef Umar and Thoriq Ibrahim, who were also appointed to ambassador-at-large roles before receiving specific overseas postings.
