Dr. Maya Popova awarded Doctor of the Year 2026 in Veliko Tarnovo

The Veliko Tarnovo District Medical College of the Bulgarian Medical Union held a ceremony to honor outstanding physicians in recognition of Bulgarian Doctor's Day and the 125th anniversary of the union's founding.

Dr. Maya Popova-Barzenska, an infectious disease specialist and educator, received the top distinction, ‘Doctor of the Year 2026’. Dr. Dimitar Krushev was awarded the ‘Dr. Stefan Cherkezov’ award for medical dedication and ethics.

Additional honors for long-term contribution to medical specialties were presented to nephrologist Dr. Margarita Velkova and anesthesiology head Dr. Sibila Marinova.
