Dr. Mehmet Hakan Özsaraç captures partial lunar eclipse

Dr. Mehmet Hakan Özsaraç, a family physician based in Samsun, successfully captured images of the partial lunar eclipse on August 28 using advanced astrophotography techniques. Despite heavy cloud cover in Yalova’s Esenköy district, Özsaraç utilized specialized software such as Stellarium and PhotoPills to plan his equipment setup, which included a telescope and three separate cameras with varying focal lengths.

Özsaraç’s interest in the sky has evolved from a hobby into a sophisticated practice of deep space scientific visualization. He has previously contributed telescope imagery and deep space data processing to the NASA Science Commission. His recent success in photographing the eclipse occurred around 05:30, when clouds briefly cleared, allowing him to record the Moon as it entered Earth’s shadow.
