Allergic rhinitis affects one in five children, warns pediatric experts

Pediatric specialists report that allergic rhinitis impacts approximately one in five children worldwide. The condition manifests as persistent nasal discharge, congestion, itching and frequent sneezing. If left untreated, it can lead to middle‑ear infections, sinusitis, sleep disturbances and reduced attention, which may impair school performance.

Risk is higher for children with family histories of allergic rhinitis, asthma or eczema. Common triggers include pollen, house‑dust mites, animal dander, mold, air pollution and sudden climate changes. Experts advise early diagnosis and allergen avoidance – such as limiting outdoor exposure during high pollen periods, maintaining indoor hygiene, and using saline irrigation, low‑dose steroid nasal sprays or antihistamines when needed.

Timely treatment can keep symptoms under control and prevent the cascade of related health issues, supporting better sleep quality, learning ability and overall wellbeing for children.
