Dr. Najeeb Naqi nominated by PML-N for AJK presidency

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has nominated Dr. Muhammad Najeeb Naqi Khan as its candidate for the presidency of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The announcement was made by party leader Nawaz Sharif and communicated by spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb.

Dr. Naqi, a veteran politician from the Sudhanoti/Poonch division, has held various ministerial portfolios in the past, including health, education, finance, and information technology. He has served multiple terms in the AJK Legislative Assembly.

The presidential election is scheduled for September 24, 2026, at the AJK Legislative Assembly Secretariat. According to the Election Commission, nomination papers must be submitted on September 19, with the scrutiny process completed the same day. Candidates have until September 23 to withdraw their nominations. The office has remained vacant since the death of former president Barrister Sultan Mahmood.
