Dr. Omar Bah documentary ‘UNBOWED’ to receive free screening in Providence

newportFILM will host a free community screening of the documentary ‘UNBOWED’ on Tuesday, October 6, at the Hope High School Auditorium in Providence. The film follows the life of Dr. Omar Bah, a Rhode Island refugee advocate and founder of the Refugee Dream Center.

Dr. Bah’s journey began in The Gambia, where he worked as a journalist attempting to expose government corruption. After facing torture and a bounty placed on his head by the regime of then-President Yahya Jammeh, he fled his home country and eventually resettled in Rhode Island. The documentary explores his work helping refugees rebuild their lives in the United States alongside his personal life as a husband and father.

The event will include a post-film discussion featuring directors Mae Gammino and David H. Wells, Dr. Bah, and Refugee Dream Center Executive Director Teddi Jallow. The screening is held in partnership with Hope High School’s Film Production Program, providing students with professional mentorship and hands-on experience in media production.
