Dr. S. C. Jamir urges RSS to expedite Naga political settlement

Former Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. S. C. Jamir has called upon Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat to leverage his influence with the BJP-led central government to expedite a resolution to the long-standing Naga political issue. Jamir, who recently met with Bhagwat in New Delhi, expressed concern that public hope for a settlement is fading after more than two decades of negotiations.

Jamir highlighted the critical state of the region, noting that the proliferation of numerous factions has led to a breakdown in governance and a rise in extortion. He described the emergence of dozens of factions claiming sovereignty as a “tamasha” that has created parallel, extra-constitutional authorities.

The meeting underscores the role of informal political influence in the peace process, as Jamir seeks to use the RSS's proximity to the national government to encourage the formal constitutional authorities to reach a final settlement.
