dr Saiful Anwar Hospital fire in Malang triggers patient evacuations
A fire broke out at the dr Saiful Anwar Regional General Hospital (RSSA) in Malang, East Java, on Wednesday afternoon, September 9, 2026. The blaze affected the hospital's nutrition installation kitchen and the laundry area, causing significant damage to the kitchen's roof.
To ensure continuous nutritional support for inpatients, hospital management has temporarily outsourced food services to catering companies. This arrangement is expected to last approximately one week while repairs and renovations are conducted to restore the kitchen facilities.
The fire necessitated the evacuation of 45 patients. Due to lingering smoke in the pediatric wards, child patients have been relocated to the Grand Pavilion area. Hospital officials confirmed that no patients were in critical or emergency condition during the incident.
In response to the event, RSSA has deployed teams of psychiatrists and psychologists to provide mental health support, with a specific focus on pediatric patients. Management is conducting screenings to monitor both the physical and psychological well-being of those affected by the incident.
