Dr. Victoria Mutiso murder case: Plea hearing set for September 29

The High Court has scheduled September 29, 2026, for the plea hearing of individuals accused in the murder of Dr. Victoria Mutiso. Dr. Mutiso was killed by gunmen during a taxi ride in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area.

Prosecutors have approved the prosecution of Kimutai Maritim, who was arrested at the Pangani Police Station while attempting to deliver food to other suspects. Investigators allege Maritim was involved in planning the crime and may assist in locating remaining suspects. He will be charged alongside Rose Mbithe, Angela Mulwa, Chris Mulwa, and Police Constable Elijah Kibelion Kimoi. Other suspects, including Police Constable Collins Bett Kilangat, have been detained for 30 days to allow investigations to conclude.

During court proceedings, Justice Alexander Muteti addressed defense requests for the accused to appear physically rather than virtually. The defense argued that physical presence was necessary to take detailed instructions regarding potential plea bargaining or guilty pleas. The judge directed that the matter proceed physically on the scheduled date.
