Dr. Wei Yuntao provides obstetric medical aid in Tibet

Dr. Wei Yuntao, an obstetrician from Yantai Yuhuangding Hospital, has been providing medical assistance in Tibet since March. Working at the Nielamu County Central Hospital at an altitude of nearly 4,000 meters, she focuses on managing high-risk pregnancies and improving maternal and infant safety in the region.

To address local medical shortages and the risks associated with long-distance transport for emergencies, Dr. Wei has implemented a standardized obstetric management system. She provides hands-on training to local medical staff in areas such as emergency response, high-risk pregnancy screening, and routine midwifery to ensure sustainable local healthcare capabilities.

In addition to hospital duties, Dr. Wei conducts mobile clinics in remote pastoral areas to provide health education and examinations for women with limited mobility. Despite challenges including altitude sickness, language barriers, and limited medical resources, she has worked to establish trust with the local community through language study and dedicated emergency care.
