Dr. Yusuf Azizoğlu State Hospital faces elevator failures and surgical milestones

Patients at Dr. Yusuf Azizoğlu State Hospital in Silvan, Diyarbakır, are reporting significant difficulties due to non-functional elevators. Both elevators in the outpatient department are currently out of service, forcing patients—including the elderly, pregnant women, and those with mobility issues—to climb three flights of stairs to access medical services.

In contrast to these infrastructure challenges, the hospital has achieved a medical milestone. For the first time in over ten years, neurosurgery has been performed at the facility. Specialist Dr. Alperen Kaya successfully treated a patient for lumbar spinal canal stenosis using microscopic surgery. Diyarbakır Provincial Health Director Dr. Emre Asiltürk noted that expanding specialized services in district hospitals is a priority to reduce the need for patient transfers to provincial centers.
