Dr. Zoraida Estela Jové advances women’s healthcare in Puerto Rico

Dr. Zoraida Estela Jové has focused her medical career on improving women’s health through preventative care and advanced diagnostic technology in Puerto Rico. Through Senos Puerto Rico, a breast-imaging center she co-founded around 2009, she has worked to increase access to screenings, including the use of mobile units to reach various communities across the island.

Senos Puerto Rico was the first center in the territory to receive the American College of Radiology’s Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation in 2011. The facility has pioneered several diagnostic methods in the region, such as tomosynthesis-guided breast biopsies and the implementation of Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) for women with dense breast tissue.

Recently, Dr. Jové has integrated artificial intelligence into her practice. In November 2025, Senos Puerto Rico became the first customer for Koios Medical’s SmartUltrasound technology on the island, a tool designed to assist physicians in evaluating breast and thyroid nodules. While utilizing these advancements, Jové maintains that the physician must remain the central figure in the diagnostic process.
