Dr. Zubaida Rahman advocates for healthcare as a fundamental right in Bangladesh

Dr. Zubaida Rahman, Vice President of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, has emphasized that healthcare must be established as a fundamental right for all citizens in Bangladesh. Speaking at an innovation fair titled ‘Expansion of Affordable and Inclusive Healthcare Opportunities’ in Dhaka, she stated that medical services should not be limited to modern hospitals or advanced technology but must reach the country's most remote areas.

Dr. Rahman highlighted the need to expand basic healthcare to over 90,000 villages to prevent patients from traveling long distances for specialized care. She advocated for a shift toward disease prevention rather than just treatment, specifically mentioning the need for social screening for non-communicable diseases like heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, as well as monitoring for age-related issues like dementia and Parkinson's.

During the seminar, concerns were also raised regarding the dengue situation, with calls for increased public awareness and childhood vaccination. Additionally, discussions touched upon the importance of coordinating researchers with healthcare providers and the potential for a digital platform to manage patient appointments in government hospitals.
