Drag Race Down Under launches “vs the World” spin‑off filmed in Portugal

The fifth season of Australia‑New Zealand’s RuPaul’s Drag Race returns as a “vs the World” spin‑off. Five local queens will compete against international all‑stars from the United States, Britain, Spain and the Philippines.

The production has moved from its modest Auckland studio to a new set in Portugal, and the series will premiere on the Australian streaming service Stan and on World of Wonder’s global platform. Judge Rhys Nicholson, the sole local judge for the first three seasons, said he is excited about the larger production and hopes the new format will win wider audiences.

The change follows a turbulent previous year in which the show was cancelled, but the fourth season earlier this year showed a marked improvement after years of criticism for low rankings among the franchise’s global editions.
