Dragan Delić criticizes President Vučić over medical treatment intervention

Dragan Delić, a physician and Member of Parliament for the Serbia Center party (SRCE), has criticized Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić for intervening in medical treatment protocols. The dispute arose after Vučić publicly called upon the Ministry of Health and the Republic Fund for Health Insurance to bypass legal procedures to provide innovative medicines to two children from Kušić and Paraćin.

Delić argued that the President, as a layperson, should not determine treatment priorities or select specific patients for innovative therapies. He emphasized that decisions regarding such treatments must be made by medical professionals and specialized health commissions according to established legal and ethical criteria.

Delić noted that while there may be issues with drug availability or the speed of processing requests, these systemic problems should be addressed for all patients rather than through individual exceptions. He also highlighted that Serbia currently only has access to approximately 10 percent of the innovative medicines approved in Europe.
