Dragan Đilas says Vučić left Serbia heavily indebted and isolated

Dragan Đilas, president of the Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP), said Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has portrayed himself as the "greatest ruler in Serbia's history" and claimed the country is the strongest it has ever been economically, politically and militarily. Đilas rejected those statements, describing the current government as a "cult of personality" that has left Serbia "the most indebted and isolated".

He cited a public debt exceeding €41 billion, trapped institutions, deteriorating education, agriculture and energy sectors, pervasive corruption and an under‑staffed army. Đilas added that Serbia is only at the beginning of the European Union accession process and that the consequences of Vučić's rule will be felt for years.

The criticism was delivered in a press conference and a written statement, emphasizing the gap between official rhetoric and the country's economic and institutional realities.
