Dragan Đilas shifts stance on Srebrenica legal classification

Dragan Đilas has shifted his stance regarding the legal classification of the Srebrenica massacre ahead of upcoming elections. In a recent video address, Đilas described the 1995 event as a ‘terrible crime’ but noted that debates persist regarding its legal qualification, citing differing casualty figures between the Republika Srpska Commission (approximately 3,500) and Bosniak findings (approximately 8,000).

This recent commentary contrasts with his previous statements. In 2020, Đilas had referenced the International Court of Justice's ruling, stating that because the court had reached a verdict, there was ‘no more need to talk about it.’ His earlier positions were more definitive regarding the legal status of the crimes committed by forces under Ratko Mladić.
