Dragan Primorac Secures Majority with 59 Signatures in Croatian Olympic Committee Race

Professor Dragan Primorac submitted 59 valid signatures from institutions and individuals with voting rights to the secretariat of the Croatian Olympic Committee (HOO) on 2 July 2026. He said the weighted value of those signatures “significantly exceeds the threshold needed for election” and therefore gives him a clear majority ahead of the presidential vote scheduled for 29 July 2026.

Primorac held a press conference to refute rival candidate Dr. Josip Varvodić’s claim that the number of signatures was inflated. He denied any political pressure or illegal influence on voters, urging all members to vote “solely according to their own convictions”. He emphasized that sport is “a sanctuary” and called for unity within Croatian sport. Boško Čavka, president of the Croatian Weightlifting Federation, endorsed Primorac’s position. The HOO assembly comprises representatives of 101 institutions and seven individual members who will cast the final votes.
