Dragana Bjelogrlić’s Violent Rhetoric Raises Alarm Ahead of Serbian Elections

Dragana Bjelogrlić, a leading figure of the Proglas initiative in Serbia, has called for "different ways of fighting" and declared that "evil must be cut at the root." Analysts note that her statements go beyond typical political discourse and echo calls for extra‑institutional conflict. Bjelogrlić’s past includes a conviction for a physical assault on editor Predrag Gagu Antonijević, and she has been linked to an incident in which journalist Zoran Vicelarević was attacked in Germany. Political sociologist Ilija Kajtez warned that the bloc’s rhetoric could open a “new wave of violence and political instability,” especially as parliamentary elections approach. The lack of a concrete program and the emphasis on militant language have raised concerns about potential unrest and the erosion of democratic norms in Serbia.
