Dragon Age franchise faces uncertain future after Veilguard sales miss, says former BioWare producer

Former BioWare executive producer Mark Darrah told reporters that a new Dragon Age entry is unlikely in the near term. The series’ latest installment, *Dragon Age: The Veilguard*, sold about 1.5 million copies in its first three months – roughly half of Electronic Arts’ internal targets – and this shortfall has left the franchise in limbo.

Darrah said the obstacle is not the game’s reception but EA’s complex approval process. He explained that multiple executives within EA claim authority over the IP, causing proposals to be “torn apart,” and that no clear champion exists inside BioWare to push a new project forward. He also echoed a common characterization of EA as “a hedge fund with a video‑game hobby,” suggesting the publisher’s financial mindset further hampers new development.

Without a dedicated internal sponsor and with sales that fell short of expectations, Darrah doubts that EA will green‑light another main‑line Dragon Age title any time soon.
