David Gaider says Dragon Age unlikely to return under EA

Former BioWare lead writer David Gaider stated that the Dragon Age series is unlikely to see another installment while owned by Electronic Arts. He noted that the most recent entry, Dragon Age: The Veilguard (2024), received mixed reviews and sold about 1.5 million copies in its first three months – roughly half of EA’s expectations, far below the 12 million units of Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Gaider explained that BioWare has been downsized and is now focused solely on the next Mass Effect, leaving little room for new Dragon Age projects. He recalled that during his tenure the franchise was “always one breath away from being shelved.” If given the chance to revive the series, Gaider said he would return to its core, creating a darker, risk‑taking fantasy RPG. The former lead writer concluded that a revival under EA is “unlikely,” though he remains open to the idea if the franchise were returned to his control outside EA’s ownership.
