Dragon Ball lore identifies Yamoshi as the Legendary Super Saiyan

The identity of the Legendary Super Saiyan, a figure capable of striking fear into characters like Frieza, has been clarified through the works of creator Akira Toriyama. While fans often speculated that the title referred to Son Goku, Broly, or Bardock, Toriyama revealed that the legend centers on Yamoshi.

Yamoshi was an ancient Saiyan with a virtuous heart who led a rebellion alongside five companions. During this conflict, they became the first Super Saiyans. Although Yamoshi was eventually defeated due to being outnumbered, his legacy persisted. In the series, this history is connected to the ritual used by Goku to achieve the Super Saiyan God transformation, which requires six righteous Saiyans to invoke Yamoshi's spirit.

Other iterations of the legendary power in the franchise include Bio-Broly, an artificial clone, and the original Broly from the Dragon Ball Z films, whose strength increases continuously during combat.
