Draka redevelopment design team finalized for Amsterdam-Noord

The design team for the redevelopment of the Draka site in Amsterdam-Noord has been finalized following a successful open architectural selection process. Developers Amvest and AM will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of architects and designers to advance the planning of this new urban district in the Hamerkwartier.

The selection process saw significant interest, with 508 architectural firms applying after more than 500 registered within a single week. The selected group includes Arons en Gelauff Architecten, FABRICations, Studio Nauta, MONADnock, Atelier Kempe Thill, VLOT, ATTRA, and Neutelings Riedijk. The selection criteria emphasized design quality, sustainability, the use of bio-based materials, and social cohesion.

The project aims to transform the approximately five-hectare site into a future-proof neighborhood featuring roughly 1,500 homes, two-thirds of which will be in the affordable segment. Additionally, the development will provide 30,000 square meters of workspace for manufacturing, offices, and hospitality, integrating residential, professional, and urban industrial functions.
