Drake Maverick confirms WWE backstage role after wrestling return

Drake Maverick, known to wrestling fans as Rockstar Spud, has confirmed he remains employed by WWE in a backstage capacity despite his recent return to in-ring competition. Maverick, a former WWE 24/7 Champion, recently competed in two matches for PROGRESS Wrestling as part of their Odyssey Tour, marking his first matches since November 2021.

Responding to fan speculation on social media, Maverick clarified that he currently serves as a writer and producer for the company. He noted that he was working backstage at RAW at the time of his response, stating, “I get to do exactly that, but do so from the other side of the camera currently.”

Maverick's recent appearances under the Rockstar Spud name resulted in a 2-0 record, with victories over Dave Mastiff and Sha Samuels. While his current focus is behind the scenes, his return to the ring has drawn attention to his ongoing professional relationship with WWE.
