Dramaten debuts with Freja Hallberg's existential drama Fåglarna

The Royal Dramatic Theatre (Dramaten) has premiered Fåglarna, a new existential drama written and directed by Freja Hallberg. The play explores how individuals handle life-threatening situations and the realization that rescue may not be possible.

Hallberg, the founder and artistic leader of the experimental scene Konträr in Stockholm, makes her Dramaten debut with this production. The play is noted for its philosophical tone and its avoidance of ironic or farcical elements, instead utilizing refined humor through dialogue and body language. To accommodate international guests and non-Swedish speaking residents, all performances include English subtitles on stage.
