Dramatic Theatre Skopje to perform at Stobi 2026 festival

The Dramatic Theatre Skopje will perform the chamber play ‘Fall of Masada’ at the 23rd International Festival of Ancient Drama ‘Stobi 2026’ in Veles. The performance is scheduled for September 22 at 20:00.

Written by Venko Andonovski and directed by Dejan Projkovski, the play explores the relationship between sacrifice, death, ideology, and heroism across different historical eras. The narrative structure consists of six scenes, beginning with the collective death at the Masada fortress during the Roman siege, moving through the Macedonian commiates, and transitioning to a Berlin bunker during the final days of the Nazi regime. The play concludes by examining how historical ideas transform into absurdity and violence in the modern era.

The Stobi 2026 festival runs from September 15 to 24 and features participating theaters from Macedonia, Serbia, and Italy.
