Drava International reports suspicious circumstances following facility fire

A fire broke out at the Drava International facility in Osijek late Tuesday night, prompting concerns among local residents due to a similar major incident at the same site in 2023. Firefighters from the Osijek Public Fire Department and the company’s internal unit responded to the blaze, which was reported around 11:13 PM.

Management at Drava International stated that the fire was contained to an area containing PP and PET recycling materials. The company clarified that the fire did not involve hazardous PVC packaging, asserting that the burning of these standard food-grade plastics does not produce toxic chlorinated compounds like dioxins, and therefore poses no threat to the environment or public health.

Company officials noted that surveillance footage shows suspicious circumstances surrounding the start of the fire. An investigation by the Osijek-Baranja Police Administration and fire protection inspectors is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
