Drava River Day celebrated in Gola to promote conservation

International Drava River Day was observed in Gola to highlight the natural, landscape, and cultural importance of the Drava River. The event, organized by Koprivnica-Križevci County and the Municipality of Gola, included programs at the newly built Bolenov Drava Path Interpretation Center.

The Drava River flows through five European countries—Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, and Hungary—connecting the Alps to the Pannonian Basin. The river area is part of the Mura-Drava Regional Park, the Natura 2000 ecological network, and the UNESCO Mura-Drava-Danube transboundary biosphere reserve.

Local officials emphasized the river's role in regional identity and its potential for sustainable development through education and recreation, such as cycling and boating. While acknowledging challenges like flooding, leaders noted the importance of preserving the river's biodiversity for future generations.
