DRC advances infrastructure through bridge project and digital expansion
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Republic of the Congo have signed a memorandum of understanding to advance the construction of a road-rail bridge connecting Kinshasa and Brazzaville. The project, which aims to span approximately 1.5 kilometers across the Congo River, was signed alongside the investment platform Africa50. This initiative is part of the African Union’s Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) and receives support from the African Development Bank.
Separately, the DRC government has announced plans to accelerate digital infrastructure investments to extend connectivity to all 145 territories in the country. During the Vodacom Impact Forum 2026, Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka emphasized the need for public-private partnerships to reduce the digital divide between urban and rural areas. This strategy aligns with President Félix Tshisekedi’s goal of achieving a digitized DRC by 2030, focusing on infrastructure sharing and increased digital service penetration to drive socio-economic development.
