DRC alerts UN to peacekeeping liquidity crisis

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has alerted the United Nations regarding a liquidity crisis affecting peacekeeping operations. During the 10,226th session of the UN Security Council, held under French presidency, DRC representative Nicolas Mupepe Matomene warned that budgetary difficulties are directly impacting the operational capacities of missions on the ground.

Matomene advocated for a transformation of peacekeeping operations to better suit local realities. He emphasized the need for mandates supported by adequate resources and a permanent partnership with host nations. The DRC delegation called for stronger coordination between peacekeeping, peacebuilding, prevention, and mediation to ensure the effective execution of assigned mandates and the protection of civilians.
