Grand Inga Democratic Republic of the Congo United States hydroelectric power energy infrastructure

The Democratic Republic of the Congo and the United States held the inaugural Grand Inga coordination and governance committee meeting on October 26, 2026, in Paris. The meeting was facilitated by the World Bank and attended by high-level delegations, including DRC Vice-Prime Minister Daniel Mukoko Samba and US Treasury Assistant Secretary Jeremy Wiggins.

The session aimed to operationalize Article X of the strategic partnership agreement signed on December 4, 2025. Discussions focused on the progressive development of the Grand Inga project, addressing energy needs, electricity transport infrastructure, and economic and financial viability. The parties also examined cooperation regarding project structuring, financing mobilization, risk sharing, and the potential roles of private sector actors and international financial institutions.
