Senegal women's football team advances to Olympic qualifiers third round

African sports see significant developments in Olympic qualification paths and regional leagues. The Senegal women's national football team, known as the Lionesses, has advanced to the third round of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualifiers after defeating Tunisia with a 2-0 aggregate score (1-0 in the first leg and 2-0 in the return match). Coach Alioune Abatalib Fall noted the positive impact of integrating younger players from the U17 and U20 squads to build future depth.

In handball, the African Handball Confederation (CAHB) has introduced a new qualification format for the 2028 Olympics. Instead of the continental champion receiving an automatic berth, a specific four-team qualification tournament will be held in March 2028. This requires teams like Algeria to secure a podium finish in the upcoming African Nations Cup to remain in contention.

Other regional updates include the results of the Guinean Ligue 2, where Tembou FC secured a 4-1 victory over Fello Star, and the Senegalese amateur league cup, where Keur Madior advanced to the quarterfinals after a 4-0 win against Haayo des Agnam. Additionally, the Senegal U17 men's team recently secured a draw against France in a friendly match as they prepare for the U17 World Cup in Qatar.
