DRC Foreign Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner visits Rome

Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Minister of Foreign Affairs Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner conducted an official mission to Rome, focusing on historical diplomacy and the role of the Congolese diaspora.

In Rome, the Minister paid tribute at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major to António Manuel Nsaku Ne Vunda, an ambassador from the Kongo Kingdom to the Holy See in the early 17th century. The visit served to highlight the long-standing history of African diplomacy, noting that the Kongo Kingdom maintained relations with the Holy See centuries before the formation of modern regional states.

Additionally, Minister Kayikwamba Wagner met with Congolese students and diaspora representatives at the DRC embassy in Italy. She emphasized the importance of the diaspora in the nation's development and encouraged active participation in national dynamics. Discussions included consular services, diploma recognition, and the return of skilled professionals. The Minister also met with Congolese diplomats at the embassy to the Holy See to discuss strengthening relations regarding peace, social justice, and the protection of vulnerable populations.
