DRC government announces permanent national solidarity campaign

The Democratic Republic of the Congo government has announced the launch of a permanent national solidarity campaign, scheduled to begin on August 25, 2026. President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi will personally inaugurate the initiative.

Minister of Social Affairs, Humanitarian Action, and National Solidarity, Ève Bazaiba Masudi, stated that the campaign aims to provide sustained support to more than 15 million vulnerable Congolese citizens. Unlike previous sporadic emergency collections, this program is designed to be permanent to address ongoing needs. The target population includes widows, the elderly, orphans, street children, and indigent individuals.

According to the Ministry, approximately 60% of those targeted are affected by conflict and population displacement, 25% by epidemics such as cholera, Mpox, and measles, and 15% by climate-related hazards like floods and landslides.

To ensure transparency and traceability, the government plans to launch a digital portal. Contributions can be made via mobile money or bank transfers. The National Solidarity Fund and the General Directorate of Solidarity and Reinsertion will manage the resources, overseen by a steering committee of relevant ministries and humanitarian partners.
