DRC Mines Minister restarts Musompo mineral analysis center

DRC Mines Minister Louis Watum Kabamba has overseen the resumption of weighing, sampling, and mineral analysis operations at the Musompo center in Lualaba province. The facility, which was inaugurated in 2023, had experienced several years of inactivity.

During his inspection of the Centre d’évaluation, d’expertise et de certification (CEEC) technical installations, including laboratories and weighbridges, the minister noted that while initial operations have begun, technical adjustments are still required to reach the center's nominal capacity of 250 trucks per day. Kabamba emphasized the need for reliable weighing and quality analysis to ensure fair valuation for mining cooperatives.

In addition to the center's relaunch, the minister held working sessions in Kolwezi regarding the demilitarization of mining sites. An inter-service commission, including military and mining officials, is tasked with coordinating the removal of uniformed personnel from mining areas and strengthening the oversight of artisanal mining zones to improve sector governance.
