DRC nominates Ézéchiel Amani Cirimwami for ICC judge seat

The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has formally presented Professor Ézéchiel Amani Cirimwami as its candidate for a judge position at the International Criminal Court (ICC). The election for the seat is scheduled for December 2026 during the 25th session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute.

Cirimwami brings more than fifteen years of experience in international law, having served as a magistrate, professor of international law, and prosecutor in the DRC. He holds two doctorates in law from the Catholic University of Louvain and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and has participated in several international legal proceedings involving the DRC, including cases before the International Court of Justice and the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights. The nomination aims to strengthen the DRC’s presence in global judicial bodies and underline its commitment to combating impunity.
