DRC Planning Minister launches population census mobilization

Guylain Nyembo, the Minister of State for Planning and Coordination of Development Aid, has launched a mobilization campaign for the second General Population and Housing Census (RGPH-2) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

During a mission through the central region, including Kananga, Mbuji-Mayi, and Kabinda, the Minister met with provincial governors and local authorities to encourage public participation. In Tshikapa, the campaign was officially launched on September 16, 2026, with Kasaï Governor Crispin Mukendi pledging provincial support for the initiative.

The census is a critical effort to update the nation's demographic data, which has relied on projections since the last general census conducted in 1984. The updated data is intended to improve the planning of public policies, infrastructure, and national development. The process will involve upcoming technical stages, including mapping and nationwide population counting.
