DRC Presidency denies claims of woman posing as Félix Tshisekedi's wife

The official residence of the Democratic Republic of the Congo's president, the Cité de l'OUA, was the site of a viral incident involving a woman claiming to be the spouse of President Félix Tshisekedi.

In videos circulating on social media, a woman identified as Mathy Mayela (also referred to as Maguy Mayela) asserted she was the president’s wife and refused to leave the premises. In response, the Maison Civile du Chef de l'État issued a formal communiqué on August 19 denying any connection between the woman and the presidential family.

The statement, signed by Maître Théo Baya, clarified that the individual is unknown to the president's family and has never maintained a relationship with him. Furthermore, the presidency noted that information gathered from the woman’s own family suggests she is experiencing a period of psychological fragility. The administration warned against the spread of these claims, stating they could damage the honor and reputation of the Head of State.
