DRDO tests indigenous high-altitude airship and parachute systems

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully completed flight trials for its indigenous High-Altitude Platform System (HAPS). The experimental airship reached an altitude of 21 km above mean sea level and maintained an altitude of approximately 20 km for over 30 minutes before a controlled descent and safe recovery.

The HAPS is designed for long-endurance stratospheric flight, providing capabilities for persistent surveillance, communications, and monitoring. During the mission, the platform continuously transmitted real-time video and vehicle performance data to a ground control station using integrated instrumentation, including GPS and onboard cameras.

In a separate high-altitude capability demonstration, DRDO conducted the first live jump of its indigenous Advanced High-Altitude Parachute (AHAP) in Nyoma, eastern Ladakh. The jump was performed at 16,000 feet, with the paratrooper landing at approximately 13,700 feet. The AHAP system is designed for the mass deployment of paratroopers in extreme environments and has an operational altitude range of up to 18,000 feet.
