Dredgers Association of Nigeria denies extortion allegations
The Dredgers Association of Nigeria (DAN) has issued a formal disclaimer regarding a report published on October 23, 2026, which alleged extortion by Lagos State officials. The Association stated that the report, which claimed the group had appealed to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu over the harassment and intimidation of operators, did not originate from its national leadership or any authorized organ.
In a statement signed by National President Batare Akpomejero and National Secretary Richard Ntan, DAN clarified that it did not authorize any petition accusing Hon. Ekundayo Alebiosu, the Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, or a Mr. Cardozo of misconduct. The Association further noted it has no record of the reported impounding of trucks or demands for ₦500,000.
DAN reaffirmed its cordial and collaborative relationship with the Lagos State Government. The group emphasized that discussions regarding dredging regulations and shoreline authority are being handled through appropriate institutional channels and dialogue with federal and state authorities rather than through media confrontations.
