Drei introduces jitter protection for 5G routers

Telecommunications provider Drei has launched a new feature called ‘Drei Ruckelschutz’ (jitter protection) integrated into its ZTE G5TC 5G router. Part of the Boost! ecosystem, the function is designed to manage bandwidth bottlenecks in households where multiple users are simultaneously streaming, gaming, or working.

The technology monitors connection quality and automatically prioritizes time-critical applications that are sensitive to latency and fluctuations. These include video telephony, video conferencing, video streaming, and online gaming. Less time-sensitive tasks, such as large file downloads, are deprioritized during periods of high network demand to ensure a smoother user experience.

Drei states that the feature functions as an intelligent bandwidth management tool within the router itself, rather than a separate app or service. The company emphasizes that the process focuses on efficient distribution without analyzing content or transferring data to external servers.
