Düren bicycle route construction to connect to Jülich Research Centre
Construction is set to begin on a new 9.8-kilometer bicycle priority route along the Rurtalbahn track in Germany. The path will provide a direct connection from the city of Düren near Großes Tal to the Forschungszentrum Jülich stop, linking several locations including Huchem-Stammeln, Selhausen, Krauthausen, and Selgersdorf.
The route will primarily utilize existing agricultural paths, with widths ranging from 3.50 to 4.50 meters to accommodate both commuters and leisure cyclists. The project is estimated to cost approximately 4.9 million euros, with 90 percent of the funding provided by the federal government and 10 percent by the Cologne District Government. The first construction phase, costing roughly 1.34 million euros, is scheduled to start in the middle of this month.
