Dresden €5 bn semiconductor plant water systems finished ahead of schedule

Gradiant announced that it completed the installation of ultrapure water and rinse‑water recovery systems three months early for a new semiconductor manufacturing facility in Dresden, Germany. The plant represents an investment of about €5 billion, is one of the largest industrial projects in the country and will double production capacity at the site, creating roughly 1,000 highly skilled jobs.

The facility will produce power semiconductors and analog/mixed‑signal components on 300‑mm wafers for AI data centres, electric vehicles, renewable‑energy systems, power grids and other industrial applications. Supported by roughly €1 billion in public funding under the European Chips Act and the Important Project of Common European Interest, the project aims to strengthen Europe's chip supply chain. Gradiant’s systems use industrial water rather than drinking water and are designed to recycle up to 45 % of production water by 2033, improving resource efficiency and operational resilience.
