Dresden plans budget cuts amid projected deficits
The Dresden city district advisory board in Pieschen met to discuss the municipal double budget for 2027 and 2028. The city's annual budget, which totals approximately 2.5 billion euros, is currently projected to face deficits of 72 million euros for 2027 and 89 million euros for 2028.
To address these financial gaps, the administration plans to implement savings across various sectors, including the Dresden public transport company (DVB) and the city administration itself. One significant measure involves a plan to reduce more than 1,000 positions within the city administration by 2031. Additionally, current planning suggests a reduction in funds allocated to city districts, with a proposed rate of 7.50 euros per inhabitant.
