Drew Doughty expresses desire to retire with Los Angeles Kings
Los Angeles Kings captain Drew Doughty has stated his intention to finish his professional hockey career with the franchise. Doughty, who turns 37 in December, expressed confidence in his ability to play until age 40, provided he remains healthy.
To facilitate a stay in Los Angeles, Doughty indicated he is willing to accept a “team-friendly deal,” potentially involving a significant pay cut. His current eight-year, $88 million contract is set to expire at the end of the current season. To prepare for upcoming negotiations, Doughty has hired agent Pat Brisson from CAA Sports, marking his first time using an agent since 2011.
While Doughty believes his performance is improving compared to his last two seasons, his most recent campaign saw a career-low offensive output of 23 points in 72 games. Kings General Manager Ken Holland has reportedly indicated that the team does not feel pressured to rush contract extension discussions and may wait until after the 2026-27 season to pursue a deal.
