The Los Angeles Kings have named defenseman Drew Doughty as the 15th captain in franchise history. The appointment follows the retirement of Anze Kopitar, who served as captain for 10 years.

Doughty, 36, has played his entire 18-year professional career with the Kings since being drafted in 2008. His tenure includes two Stanley Cup championships and a Norris Trophy. General manager Ken Holland stated that Doughty has earned the role through his championship experience and daily competitive standard.

For the 2026-27 season, the Kings also named Mikey Anderson, Adrian Kempe, and Artemi Panarin as alternate captains.
